Ok so todays post might put some of you off your food. But I did want to share with you all something I have been doing now for two weeks and which is surprising making a difference in my life . So, I have been oil pulling now for two weeks and for those of you who don't know what oil pulling is, its like using oil as a mouthwash. It sounds strange but I know people who actually put oil in their coffee so I am not that weird.lol.
'They' say that oil pulling amongst other things whitens your teeth, makes your breath fresher and I have to say I have been impressed so far. Its meant to reduce the amount of harmful bacteria in your month and basically when you swish the oil around your month, the bacteria gets stuck in it and dissolves in the liquid oil. I suffer from brittle teeth so I have been trying to find natural ways of improving my oral health and helping with whitening, after all who doesn't want white teeth.
How to Oil Pull:
Most important I think is to do it on an empty stomach as for the first few times I felt like I was going to throw up. I use coconut oil as the taste is not that bad compared to other oils but traditionally you can use any oil you want, be it olive or sunflower oil.
- Put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth
- Swish the oil around your month for about 15-20 mins
- Spit the oil out, in the bin or outside not sink as it would clog the sink/toilet.
- Brush your teeth as normal.
If you use coconut oil like me, then you may have to chew on the oil for a minute or so to let it melt, because it is solid at room temperature. I have also noticed some added benefits. I suffer from acne and psoriasis and it has also started to improve it. My skin is looking good as well so its all good.
